Concentration in Photography

Including Digital Imaging and Illustration

Students within the photography concentration are encouraged to see photography in its broadest context. We emphasize a holistic understanding of the vast history of the photographic medium and processes while focusing on the contemporary era of digital imaging. The image making process is considered in a comprehensive context from image capture and concept formation to building artistic works and visual communications.

Preparing students to take their place in the contemporary image-driven world is a focus of this program. Students are challenged to work in fine art, studio and photo-journalistic situations to develop their unique visual voice. Also, students are encouraged to complete an internship to further their practice in the field.

Students in the photography concentration are additionally invited to take advantage of the resources offered in Rochester, including the George Eastman House and Visual Studies Workshop research archives and a rich variety of other opportunities.

 

A minor in Photography would include any four of these courses:
