Digital Media Art
This program provides students with the artistic, communication and technical skills necessary for a wide of range of digital media fields.
We see this program as collaboration with the Dept. of Communication to draw upon the strengths of both programs to help students develop and strong and skilled visual voice.
This curriculum encompasses and explores all aspects of digital motion media from traditional video production to the emerging fields of independent web-based content - including television and film concepts. After receiving a comprehensive yet intentionally broad curriculum in the concept, technique and theory of Art, Design and Media for visual communications; graduates bring critical thinking and technical strategies relevant to contemporary media and the media arts to their chosen profession.
Preparing students for the world of contemporary media is an important consideration of the department. Students in the Digital Media Art concentration are expected to complete a professional internship in their area of interest.
At the heart of Digital Media curriculum are two computer labs each consisting of fourteen iMac computer stations optimized to speed processing of motion graphics, animation, and video-based special effects.
Current industry level software includes the Final Cut Pro, AfterEffects, DVD Studio Pro, and the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite - consisting of: Photoshop, Lightroom, Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign; as well as Premiere Pro and related video software.
Students also have access to a fully equipt lighting studio; and in collaboration with The Media Services Office - use of a Television style Production Studio.
In addition to the lab facilities we have video cameras ranging from consumer to professional grade for student check-out. Students are also trained on audio equipment and lighting, and that equipment can be checked out.
Students also can access a full range of DSLR still photo cameras and have use of the fully equipped lighting studio.
