Nursing Program Direct Entry

Main content

As a transfer student, a common question we hear is, “How can I be sure I’ll be accepted into the Nursing Major?” In colleges and universities across North America, many schools are finding themselves with a shortage of clinical spots, which means many transfer students have to wait until there is room. This becomes a waiting game for many.

At Roberts, we are offering exceptional transfer students direct entry into the Nursing major.

This means that you can have a smooth transition into your Nursing courses. Through our summer transfer option, students could start their junior year clinical courses in the fall following two Nursing courses over the summer (NSG 101 & NSG 203).

What are the steps and deadlines to be accepted for Direct Entry into the Nursing major?

To be admitted into the Nursing major, a transfer student must meet the following:

  • 3.0 cumulative college GPA
  • 3.0 cumulative science GPA in the following four sciences courses:
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology I (with lab)
    • Human Anatomy and Physiology II (with lab)
    • Microbiology (with lab)
    • Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry (with lab)
  • 3.0 Nursing GPA (nutrition course)
  • Have not failed a Nursing course or been dismissed from a Nursing program.
  • Have had two or fewer attempts at all sciences to meet GPA requirements.
  1. After the fall semester at your current school, you will make sure all your admissions steps are completed (including receipt of your fall transcript).
  2. Submit your FAFSA to Roberts (school code #002805) so the Office of Financial Aid can work on a financial aid offer package for you.
  3. Submit your Enrollment Deposit by May 1.

What if I am interested in Nursing, but have not taken science or Nursing courses?

A student with a record of high academic achievement (3.0 or higher) at their previous college may be admitted and granted direct entry into the Nursing program. During their time at Roberts, the student is expected to achieve and maintain no less than a 2.75 overall cumulative GPA, and 2.75 in all science and Nursing courses.

What if a transfer applicant only has completed a couple of science prerequisites and is not transferring for a semester or two?

Assuming the applicant meets our Nursing transfer standards, they will be accepted into Roberts and the applicant will be granted direct entry into the Nursing program. This direct entry has an expectation that they persist a GPA at 3.0 or higher in each of the three categories (cumulative GPA, science GPA, and nursing GPA) until they transfer to Roberts. If the student does not persist the GPA requirements, their spot will be revoked and a spot will open up for another student waiting for a place in the NSG 205 course.

What if a student fulfills the Admission requirements but has failed a Nursing course or taken a science prerequisite three times or more?

If a student has been dismissed or has failed out of another nursing program or if they have attempted or failed the same science prerequisite three times or more, they will not be granted admission into the Roberts Nursing program regardless of their GPA.
