There are several core courses that are required by all students in the Music Performance program. These include:

  • Music Theory I, II, III, IV
  • Aural Skills I, II, III
  • Music History and Literature I, II, III
  • Basic Conducting
  • Ensembles
  • Applied Piano
  • Functional Piano
  • Music Seminar

In addition to these core courses, there are several specific requirements for vocal, piano, guitar, and orchestral instruments.

Vocal Requirements:

  • Vocal Literature I, II
  • Vocal Pedagogy / Vocal Field Experience
  • Diction for Singers
  • Foreign language (6 credits)
  • Choral Conducting
  • Musical Stage Performance
  • Applied Voice

Piano Requirements:

  • 20th Century Theory
  • Piano Literature I, II
  • Piano Pedagogy I
  • Piano Field Experience
  • Accompanying

Orchestral Instruments:

  • 20th Century Theory
  • Instrument Literature I, II
  • Instrument Pedagogy / Field Experience
  • Instrumental Conducting
  • Applied Instrument
  • Chamber Ensemble

Guitar Requirements:

  • 20th Century Theory
  • Instrument Literature I
  • Guitar Pedagogy
  • Field Experience I, II
  • Fretboard Harmony
  • Jazz Theory and Improvisation
  • Applied Guitar

All performance majors are required to perform a Junior and Senior recital.
