Homeschool Jazz Band

Director: Dr. Dina Alexander, Ph.D

Let's get swinging! Our Homeschool Jazz Band is perfect for homeschool students ages 9-13 who have at least one year of experience on their instrument and is open to piano, acoustic and electric bass, drum set, electric guitar, woodwind (sax, flute, clarinet), and brass players. Learn the fundamentals of playing in an ensemble while you explore different jazz styles and dive into improvisation.

Instruction will be provided by Dr. Dina Alexander and her Music Education students at Roberts Wesleyan College. As a public school music teacher, Dr. Alexander taught instrumental music to beginning through advanced students. She was the first music educator to demonstrate the extraordinary effectiveness of teaching beginning instrumental music using “Jump Right In: The Instrumental Series (JRI),” a method that emphasizes aural music skill development designed to enhance music reading comprehension. The extraordinary musical achievements demonstrated by Dr. Alexander’s elementary students have garnered interest and admiration from music educators at home and abroad. Performances of her amazing young students may be viewed on her website at: www.dinaalexander.net
