Congratulations to Students from President Porterfield

Dear Roberts and Northeastern Students:

As this week comes to a close, and we reach the end of our on-campus classes and transition to the final few weeks being fully online, I have two words for you:

The first is Congratulations!!  Together you have successfully achieved something that some would never have thought possible. Because of your commitment to hard work, discipline, resilience, and creative innovation when faced with impossible challenges, we have been able to continue both on-campus and virtual classes for the past 12 weeks (90 Days!).

This has been accomplished through the work of an amazing team of leaders and the cooperation of everyone on campus. We could not have done this without you being ALL IN as we moved through the semester. I know that it has required extra work, a commitment to wearing masks, and remaining physically distanced. For some of us, fear and anxiety, uncertainty and grief, have been very real and overwhelming. But God is Here and he walked this journey with us every step of the way. Keeping our campus open is a success and a win for everyone, and for that, I say to you Congratulations; Well Done!

The second word Is Thankful. Today I give thanks to God for his protection of our community. As a Christian College and Seminary, our deep roots of faith teach us to believe that we can give thanks in all circumstances, and to do so enriches our lives. Our Creator has given us good gifts, and his faithfulness and care have sustained us.

I am also thankful for YOU, the students of Roberts and Northeastern. As I have heard from some of you over the course of this semester, I am amazed by your resilience during ongoing change, your willingness to do whatever it takes to move forward, and your grace towards each other, which has inspired me. You are a living representation of our motto, Education for Character.  You are the reason we are here and there is nothing more life-giving than walking your educational journey with you.

As we move fully into our virtual format for the remainder of the semester and spend a few days next week celebrating Thanksgiving, let us give thanks to the Lord for these blessings and all he has given.

With a thankful heart,

President Porterfield
