Alumni Spotlight: Booker'16 Recognized as Runner Up for CCCU Young Alumni Award

London Booker'16 (Childhood and Special Education), received runner-up recognition from The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) for the Young Alumni Award. This award is presented to individuals who have graduated within the last 10 years from a CCCU institution and have exhibited uncommon leadership or achieved notable success in a way that reflects Christian higher education. There are more than 180 Christian institutions that are part of the CCCU and only three alumni were recognized. Booker will be receiving a certificate from the CCCU to acknowledge this accomplishment.

While at Roberts, Booker was a Farash First in Family Scholarship recipient and distinguished himself through service to the community, one of the hallmarks of the Farash program. "He is an amazing person and we are delighted that he was recognized as a young alumni who is serving others and making a difference in the Rochester community," said Kirk Kettinger, Director of Alumni and External Relations at Roberts Wesleyan College.

Booker's contributions and leadership as the vice president of RocE6, an organization dedicated to introducing inner-city youth to sports they might not normally play and supporting their education, were recognized by the CCCU. Attending one of RocE6’s camps himself during his youth changed the trajectory of Booker’s life and encouraged his passion for lacrosse. Booker played on the NCAA Division II lacrosse team while a student at Roberts. Booker uses his current role to coach and mentor students as they develop skills in lacrosse. He is a 7th Grade Math Teacher in the Rochester City School District.
