Student Spotlight: Terrell Spencer– Senior ‘20

Major: Sports Management & Marketing

Terrell Spencer

Where are you from?

Pickering, Ontario which is east of Toronto.

What stands out from your experience here at Roberts?

I think what stands out the most is that this is a place where you feel that you are a part of a community with the whole school. Being on a sports team makes it easier since most people know who you are because they try to keep up with the team’s performance. Since Roberts is a small college, it is easy for people to know you which makes you feel accepted and part of the community.

What is the best thing about studying Sports Management & Marketing?

I think that the best thing about studying Sports Management & Marketing is that I am able to apply the things that I learn.

What are your career plans after graduation?

I plan to play soccer at the professional level overseas. I would also like to go into coaching and player scouting in the future.

Who is your favorite professor here at Roberts?

My favorite professor is Professor William Todd who teaches business programs.

What’s your favorite food at Garlock?

The breadsticks used to be my favorite, but now it’s the “Make Your Own” station where I can make my own meals and season them to my liking.

What is your favorite Roberts memory?

I am a forward on the men’s soccer team and also a captain. Being a part of the soccer team and making lifelong friends that I’ve met through being involved in sports has been very rewarding. I remember when I visited Roberts I felt instantly accepted by the soccer team and they all greeted me as if I had always been a member of their team. That feeling has continued over my four years here.

What is your favorite Rochester restaurant?

I like the Cheesecake Factory in Pittsford. My parents and I go there whenever they come to visit.

How have you served others at Roberts?

The soccer team does volunteering every year for community service projects. The team also likes playing sports with the BELL students here at Roberts.

What advice would you give to a new student?

Enjoy every moment of your college experience; because the years go by very fast and someday you will miss them.

Faculty Feedback:

Meg Hartman, Adjunct Faculty for Undergraduate Business and MSMK

“Terrell is an engaged and insightful student, and a hard worker. He is able to apply class concepts easily to real-world examples and brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom (most recently, gaming!). His strong character is evident to all - last year he was an Ethics Bowl recipient, nominated by his peers, faculty, and staff for demonstrating ethical behavior. I've been impressed with his ability to juggle all of his school work with his demanding soccer schedule and somehow thrive at both. I know Terrell is going to succeed in whatever he chooses to do after graduation!”
