Roberts Creates Executive Director of Community Engagement Leadership Role, Promotes College Leader of 22 Years

Roberts Wesleyan College is pleased to announce the addition of a new strategic leadership position. Dr. Steven L. Bovee has been appointed executive director of community engagement for the college, effective October 21. Dr. Bovee will directly oversee The Community Institutes at Roberts Wesleyan College, which includes Business Solutions, Justice & Security, English Language and Intellectual & Spiritual Humility.

“Steve’s background, strengths and credentials uniquely qualify him to serve in this new role,” Chief Financial Officer Laurie Leo said. “His experience in forging relationships with the local and regional business communities will help him direct strategic initiatives for the four institutes, including community engagement and the identification of critical needs in the Greater Rochester community.”

Dr. Bovee has served at the college since 1997 and brings more than two decades of leadership experience, strategic planning, program development, research and teaching to his new role. He previously served Roberts Wesleyan College as director of the Master of Science in Strategic Leadership and undergraduate business programs, and since 2015 has served as the founding dean of the School of Business. Dr. Bovee has also served as coordinator of academic development, assisting with the startup of 18 new academic programs, and was instrumental in the establishment of the School of Business National Advisory Council.

As executive director of community engagement, he will work with institute directors and campus leaders to identify and cultivate community partners to support and expand the institute’s programs, as well as assist the entire advancement team to develop funding and grants for the institutes.

A key goal for this leadership role will be to formalize the overall structure of the four institutes, align the institute’s goals with the overall strategic map, create a sustainable financial model and assist the institute directors with community outreach.

Dr. Bovee earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Oklahoma State University, as well as a master’s in business administration and bachelor’s in accounting from Oral Roberts University. A native of upstate New York, Dr. Bovee and his wife, Krista, reside in Churchville and have five children. For more information on The Community Institutes at Roberts Wesleyan College, visit here.
