Roberts Hosts Discussion with Local Leaders on Transformative Power of Soft Skills

Roberts Wesleyan College will host its fall leadership breakfast, featuring a panel of local leaders, to discuss the importance and impact of soft skills on people, companies and communities. The event will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in Shewan Recital Hall, located in the Howard Stowe Roberts Cultural Life Center on campus.

The panel discussion will get to the heart of soft skills, or “people skills,” that lead to successful and effective interactions with others. Attendees will have the chance to learn from a panel of experts from local businesses, outlining specifically what these transferable skills are, why they’re essential to success, and their impact on leaders, employees, companies and the greater community.

“Soft skills are essential in today’s workplace, almost more important than technical or hard skills,” said Deana L. Porterfield, president of Roberts Wesleyan College. “Transferable aptitudes like communication, empathy, discernment and relational skills that affect interactions with others will equip professionals in a way that leads their organizations forward. Soft skills are critical to business and personal success, so we hope this panel discussion will provide insights into their value and development.”

Panelists include Regional Transit Services Chief People Officer Amy Gould, Rochester Chamber of Commerce Sr. Manager of Workforce & Economic Development Adrian Hale, and Sales360plus Executive Coach & President Cindi Crowley. Each speaker will draw upon their highly skilled backgrounds in workforce development to demonstrate attainable strategies and practical ways to implement these transferable skills and positively impact company culture.

Tickets are $10, with a portion of each ticket supporting student scholarships and programs through the Roberts Fund. Event and table sponsorships are also available by contacting Lisa Tiffin at tiffin_lisa@roberts.edu.
