Search Begins for New Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Interim Coach Named; National Search to Begin Immediately

Roberts Wesleyan College Director of Athletics Bob Segave has announced the resignation of head women’s basketball coach Gary Andrews. Andrews is set to become the next boys’ basketball head coach at North Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, pending school board approval.

Longtime lead Assistant Coach Jack Rosati has been named interim head coach and will work closely with Andrews and Segave to ensure the continuity of the program as they prepare for another successful season in 2018-19. Andrews’ resignation will take effect on July 27.

“Roberts Wesleyan College and Redhawks athletics wish to thank Coach Andrews for his service over the past three seasons,” Segave said. “Gary is an excellent coach, and the success of his student-athletes in the classroom and on the basketball court has been a source of pride for the college, our alumni and the community.”

In his three years as the head coach of the Redhawks, Andrews amassed a winning record of 70-30, including three straight East Coast Conference post-season berths. In his first season, Andrews led the Redhawks to a 29-7 overall record and a trip to the ECC Championship game, where the team fell to Queens. In the NCCAA tournament, Roberts won five straight games and defeated Colorado Christian University in the finals to win its first NCCAA National Championship. Andrews was named the NCCAA Coach of the Year.

Prior to his time at Roberts, Andrews coached for 23 years in the Fort Wayne area, spending nine years as the head coach of the Bishop Luers High School girls’ program and 14 years at the helm of the Saint Francis University women’s program. Andrews won three high school girls’ state titles with Bishop Luers and an NAIA National Championship with Saint Francis.

“I want to thank President Porterfield and Bob Segave for allowing me to coach here,” Andrews said. “I have truly enjoyed my time here at Roberts and have loved working with my players, coaching staff, athletic staff and the faculty. We were able to win at least 20 games each season with a very young team. The school record 29 wins and the NCCAA National Championship stand out as great memories along with winning the only Division II conference tournament games in school history and defeating NCAA Division I Cleveland State. My new job opportunity takes me back home and will allow me the opportunity to coach high school boys in Indiana, which is something I have always wanted to do.”

A national search for the next head coach of the women’s basketball team will begin immediately.

“As the region’s only NCAA DII athletic program, we are confident that we will be able to hire the next head women’s basketball coach from an outstanding group of candidates,” Segave said.
