Share thisRoberts and Northeastern Welcome Darrell Bell Jr. as Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary are pleased to announce that Darrell Bell Jr. has been appointed to the college and seminary’s leadership team as vice president of institutional advancement, effective Jan. 1. Bell brings extensive experience and a successful career in advancement and higher education, most recently leading the University of Rochester’s regional advancement initiatives.
“It was clear from our earliest conversations with Darrell that his passion and expertise in advancement will bring new ideas and thinking to the work we do,” said Dr. Deana L. Porterfield, president of Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary. “He brings energy to each room he enters and has an undeniable love for people. I am confident his experience will help us meet our advancement goals and create a model for the future.”
As vice president for institutional advancement, Bell will manage all aspects of advancement activities at Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary, including major giving, donor development, grants and corporate relations, fundraising, alumni and church relations, planned giving and capital campaigns. He will provide vision, leadership and direction to all advancement staff and support the college and seminary through advancement and service on the president’s cabinet and other committees.
Prior to Roberts Wesleyan and the seminary, he served as senior director of regional advancement at the University of Rochester since 2011. In that role, he we was responsible for dramatically growing gift activity of $100,000-$4,999,999 within the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. He was the leader in the region and worked with internal and external partners to communicate regional priorities while ensuring his team was being managed effectively. Prior to his time at the University of Rochester, he served at Carnegie Mellon University for three years.
Throughout his career, Bell has gained extensive expertise in revenue and gift management, relationship building, volunteers and staff management, strategic planning and project management.
Bell received a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice and legal studies from the University of Pittsburgh and associate degree in criminal justice from California University of Pennsylvania. He serves on the board of directors for the Michael Napoleone Memorial Foundation, which assists families impacted by pediatric cancer, and supports cancer research and youth sports. He has also been involved with The Father’s House, Friends of Braddock and The Neighborhood Academy, and participates in the Carnegie Mellon Food Drive and Braddock Food Bank.
He resides in Macedon with his wife, Melanie.
