Roberts Named a 2015 Great College to Work For

{Honor by The Chronicle of Higher Education Puts Local Institution on Elite List}

Roberts Wesleyan College has been honored on the annual Great College to Work For® list, presented by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Now in its eighth year, Great Colleges to Work For recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies. A total of 86 colleges have been recognized on the list, out of the 281 participating institutions that applied. Employees from Roberts Wesleyan College participated in the survey.

“The college was recognized in four categories, which is rare for a first time recipient,” said Ruth Logan, vice president for administration of Roberts Wesleyan College.

Roberts Wesleyan College was recognized in the following four categories:

  • Collaborative Governance
  • Confidence in Senior Leadership
  • Facilities, Workspace & Security
  • Supervisor/Department Chair Relationships

“We are grateful to be honored and represented on this prestigious list,” said Deana L. Porterfield, president of Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary. “For nearly 150 years, we have been committed to educating with character. As president, my goal is to create an environment where faculty and staff are part of a thriving community that inspires our best for students. Though we always have areas for improvement, this recognition acknowledges our hard work and commitment to developing a thriving community committed to educating our students.”

Competing against hundreds of institutions across the country, Roberts Wesleyan College participated in a rigorous selection process, which included a two-part assessment: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

“The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For program shows how the colleges and universities on the list are getting it right,” said Liz McMillen, editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education. “They’re leaders in creating environments where smart people enjoy their work. The faculty and staff who make up our readership want to know which institutions are Great Colleges to Work For because many of them are either seeking to improve their own campus or are looking for that next great career opportunity. The selection process is rigorous, and being named to the list is a tremendous accomplishment, but it also positions colleges and universities well to recruit the people who make them a success.”

Great Colleges to Work For results were reported for small (2,999 students or fewer), medium (3,000-9,999 students) and large institutions (10,000 or more students).
