Updates from the Office of Academics

1. Impact of COVID on the Student Educational Experience.

Early last spring, we were required to transition all on-campus in-person classes to remote virtual (online) instruction.  This fall, while some professors and students are fully virtual, most students are in-person for the majority of their classes, although in the majority of these classes some students are virtual.  And in all in-person classes, both faculty and students have had to adjust to wearing masks and remaining physically distant during class sessions.  Instruction will remain the same in the spring but with an altered calendar.  The second semester will start in late January at the earliest and run straight through until early May semester, with only a few study days off as opposed to our normal week off in February.  I want to commend both faculty and students for how they have worked together to retain a high-quality educational experience under very trying conditions.

2. New Gen Ed Core

A new Reimagined General Education Core was completed earlier this year, a Core that allows all students to earn a minor in Critical Analysis and Social Engagement with a focus on The Examined Life and Human Experience, Faith and Culture, and/or Global Responsibility and Community Commitment.  Click here for a short video that shares more details.

3. Increased Focus on Career Development

Along with completing an academic major, students are encouraged to develop a 4-Year Career Plan that will help them better transfer what they are learning in the classroom to a work or graduate school setting. You can view the resource here.  Feel free to reach out to the Director of Career Development, Mary Flaherty, with any questions at FlahertyM@roberts.edu.
