Obafemi Alao Joins Redhawks as New Assistant Director of Athletics

Roberts Wesleyan Director of Athletics, Bob Segave has announced the hiring of Obafemi Alao as the newest member of the Redhawks. Alao joins the department as the Assistant Director of Athletics.

Alao comes to Roberts after the athletics department was the recipient of the NCAA Division II Strategic Alliance Matching Grant. The grant provided funding for Roberts Wesleyan to hire a full-time assistant director of athletics. The grant is funded by the NCAA Division II diversity grant.

“I am both honored and humbled by the opportunity to use athletics to impact students, faculty and staff while embracing Robert Wesleyan College’s mission,” Alao said.

For the last ten years Alao has spent time working in both athletics and education administration at the K-12 level. Over the last eight years, the Aurora, Colorado native has worked as an athletic director in a high school setting. Most recently, Alao was the campus athletic director for DSST Public Schools in Denver, Colo.

Alao brings in experience of overseeing athletic staff and coaches while also supervising all administrative and operational functions of an athletics department. At Roberts, Alao will serve on the leadership team within athletics and will work hand-in-hand with Segave to help give direction in the growth of the department.

During her undergraduate years, Alao was a member of the NCAA Division I Grambling State University women’s soccer team. There she spent three years before transferring to the University of Southern Mississippi where she played her final season. At Grambling, Alao earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.

Following her undergrad work Alao completed two masters’ degrees at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Those degrees included a Master in Educational Administration and Supervision and in Sport Administration.

“We are very happy to have Femi join us in the athletics department as Assistant Director of Athletics,” said Segave. “Femi’s background in leadership positions has given her the experience to come into this position and succeed. She will make a positive impact in this department and around campus.”

Alao began her new role at Roberts on Tuesday, September 24.
