Roberts Welcomes New Faculty

This year, eight new faculty members joined Roberts Wesleyan who we hope will enrich our programs with academic strengths and enhance the diversity of ideas and educational innovation.

Meredith Ader is the Access Services Librarian. Prior to Roberts, she was the Director and Head Librarian at Elim Bible Institute and College. She is a member of the Association of Christian Librarians, RRLC and WNYLRC.

Chip Wiley is the Research and Instruction Librarian. Prior to Roberts, he worked as a Library Reference Assistant at Asbury University. Wiley has five years of university teaching experience in China and also studied Chinese for one year at Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China. He also co-led a team of students who taught a ten-day English camp for middle school students in Zhejiang province.

David Carr is an Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies. Carr has taught for the last nine years, including Introduction to the New Testament, Acts, Epistles & Revelation and Selfhood & Identity in the Letters of Paul. He has been published three times and has participated in several academic paper and panel discussions. Carr is a John Wesley Fellow and is a candidate for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church.

Robert Dorman is an Associate Professor of Nursing. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester. He traveled to India five times to help improve the nursing education system for an ophthalmology program that supplies staff to over 200 vision care facilities. His experience includes Pediatric CCRN Instructor and Pediatric Trauma Program Manager. Dorman has countless presentations at the local, regional, national and international levels including Care of the Pediatric Burn Patient, Pediatric Emergencies, Pediatric Trauma and Truth or Consequences: Distracted Driving.  He has been published four times. In 2017, he was a Nurse of the Year Finalist for Pediatrics for the March of Dimes. He received the Best Team Player award twice at The Johns Hopkins Hospital PICU. He has been a member of the Brighton Volunteer Ambulance, Finger Lakes Regional Burn Association and Future of Nursing – NYS Action Coalition.

Adam Huck is an Assistant Professor of Education. Huck most recently was a lecturer at SUNY Buffalo State and also taught elementary school for Rush-Henrietta Central School District for 13 years. He has been published twice and has participated in four conferences. He is a member of the American Educational Research Association, American Educational Studies Association, National Council for Social Studies and National Association for Professional Development Schools.

Mike Lastoria is an Interim Associate Professor of Psychology. Lastoria has worked at both Roberts Wesleyan College and Houghton College (Professor Emeritus) in counselor positions. He was previously the Director of Counseling Services at Houghton College. He has been a visiting professor at Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya; Houghton in Tanzania and London. Lastoria has many publications, presentations and keynotes. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist. Lastoria strives to make an impact on the lives of his students.

Sharon Kurtz is an Instructor of Nursing. She started as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Roberts in January 2019. She is a Registered Nurse and worked for Rochester Regional Health at Unity Hospital for over ten years. She has experience as a Certified Lactation Counselor, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, Maternal-Newborn Nursing and Low Risk Neonatal Nursing. Kurtz would like to pursue her M.S. in Nursing Education. She is a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

Scarlett Aeckerle is an Interim Assistant Professor of Social Work. She has worked for Roberts as a Field Instructor since 2012 and is a New York State Licensed Master in Social Worker (LMSW). Aeckerle worked as an Associate Professor and BSW Program Director at Keuka College for ten years. She has over 30 years’ experience as a practicing social worker and educator. She was a commissioned 1LT in the US Army Reserves, MSC as a Social Worker and is a certified German linguist.
