Search Underway for New Assistant Athletic Director Position

Diverse position funded by NCAA DII Strategic Alliance Matching Grant

Roberts Wesleyan College was recently named a recipient of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Strategic Alliance Matching (SAM) Grant, which will provide funding over the next three years to hire a full-time diverse assistant athletics director — a new position that the college would otherwise not have been able to implement.

The grant is funded though Division II diversity grants, which provides financial assistance to Division II conferences and member institutions committed to enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in mid-to-senior intercollegiate athletics administrative positions. The grant requires the position to be awarded to an ethnic minority and/or female candidate that agrees to employment for a full five years at the college.

The assistant athletic director reports directly to the college’s athletics director and supports leadership and management of all athletic programs for the college. Other responsibilities include helping student athletes find opportunities to succeed in their academic and athletic roles while upholding integrity, faith and competitive excellence in all sports programs.

“We’re thankful to the NCAA for awarding us with the SAM Grant,” Roberts Wesleyan College Athletic Director Bob Segave said. “This provides Roberts with the unique opportunity to greater serve our student athletes with the appointment of an assistant athletic director and closely aligns with our values to promote diversity and inclusion within our campus community and athletics department. We’re grateful for this support that will enable us to push the athletics program and college forward.”

A recruitment search is currently underway to fill this position with the goal of selecting a candidate for the 2019-20 academic year. To find out more about the requirements and responsibilities or to apply for the position, click here

The Roberts Wesleyan College athletic program has been the recipient of several other NCAA Division II Awards of Excellence, including the NCAA Community Engagement top 5 award in April 2019 for the 2017-18 academic year and top 25 for the 2018-19 academic year in May 2019. Other NCAA awards include the King for a Day Award for the 2018-19 academic year in January 2019 and NCAA The Game Award for the 2016-17 academic year in December 2016.
