Student Spotlight: Kyle Preston– Senior ‘19

Isaiah Lewis

What stands out from your experience here at Roberts?

The positive atmosphere with professors and students who were always willing to help you with academics and support you in your faith really stood out to me. As the first person in my family to go to college, I feel like this accomplishment is not only for me, but for my family, too.

What is the best thing about studying Accounting?

Experiencing it first-hand through my internships at Mass Mutual and ESL Federal Credit Union. I was able to apply what I had learned in the classroom to my role and learn from others in the industry.

What are your career plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to work for ESL and pursue a career in wealth management.

What is your favorite course at Roberts?

Personal Economics with Professor Erv Starr. Professor Starr made things very relatable to real-life experiences.

Share about being on the golf team and managing your course work?

It definitely took a while to learn to balance both my courses and playing on the golf team. I learned to study while on golf trips and use my time efficiently at the team study hall.

What is your favorite food at Garlock?

The chocolate cookies! I also used to make salads and add the grilled chicken – it was a staple.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

I liked the upper VAC for studying and working out in the cardio room.

What is your favorite Roberts memory?

Making friends with people that I know will last a lifetime. A lot of my friends I met my freshman year and we have remained close throughout my time at Roberts. I have made several friends from the golf team, too – guys who graduated before me who I still talk to today.

Faculty Feedback:

William H. Todd, Associate Professor of Marketing; Internship Faculty Supervisor

“Kyle is one of those students who makes an early strong impression simply by the force of their personality, which is just one of Kyle's strengths. He demonstrated many of his strengths this year at his internship experience at Mass Mutual Life Insurance. He has the gift of making connections with people and earning their trust and building relationships. He appreciates what he has learned at Roberts, as an Accounting student, and how that knowledge will help him in the future. Kyle refers to me as "The GOAT" which stands for Greatest of All Time (in their field). After all my years of teaching, that is one nickname I won't forget! ...nor will I forget Kyle.”
