Roberts to Host Summer Career Camps for Young Students with Financial Needs

Roberts Wesleyan College will host two weeks of overnight summer camps July 22 to August 2 for high school students to experience a college experience on campus. Students can choose to attend one or two weeks, and choose from 10 different academic camps (Psychology, CSI, Business Innovation, Environmental science, Optics, Choir, Criminal Investigation, Nursing, Pre-Med and Young Women in Leadership). There are also scholarships available for students with financial need.

The summer camp offers up to 240 spots to high school students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in fall 2019. The camp is in its third year and provides a unique resource for students to explore various careers and college life.

“These summer camps provide students with the opportunity to experience their future,” said Amy A. Kovach, Ph.D., director of academic summer programs. “Students leave these camps with a greater knowledge of college life and concrete experience in a potential field of interest. We are excited to continue offering scholarships this year to make this educational opportunity an accessible option for all students.”

Roberts Wesleyan will offer full scholarships for 30 applicants, covering the cost of meals, overnight lodging, camp experiences and labs, field trips and more. These scholarships are made possible by the college’s board of trustees.

The deadline to apply for a scholarship is May 1. However, applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.

Scholarship criteria includes:

  • Student must have financial need as evidenced by receiving free or reduced lunch
  • Student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.50 or higher

If applying for the summer camp without financial aid, the deadline is July 13. For students who don’t receive or qualify for the scholarship, the cost per camper is $395 per week, which covers the week’s housing, meals and activities.
