Men's Golf Headed to National Championships after Historic Win at Regional Championships

DANIELS, W.Va. – The Roberts Wesleyan men's golf team is moving on to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time in program history following a first place finish at the Atlantic/East Region Championship that concluded on Wednesday at The Resort at Glade Springs, Cobb Course in West Virginia.

In the final round of the three round tournament the Redhawks came back from nine strokes down to surpass Franklin Pierce by one stroke for the top spot and claim their first ever regional title and a ticket to the national championships. Roberts finished with a total team score of 889 (+25) including a final round team score of 289 (+1), the lowest round score out of any team in the tournament.

Roberts entered the regional championships as a tenth-seeded underdog, but were not lacking in confidence after winning their final two tournaments of the regular season, beating many of the higher ranked teams in the Atlantic and East region.

All five members of the golf team placed within the top 25 in individual scoring. Grant Brongoand Michael Young Jr. led the way with a tie for 17th place. The duo both shot a seven-over, 223 for the three rounds. The three other Redhawks (Brandon GrzywaczAlec KunzwilerErich Spitz) all tied for 24th place with a 224 (+8). There were 108 participants in total.

The Redhawks will head to The Shoals Golf Club in Muscle Shoals, Alabama for the National Championships to be held from May 21-25. The tournament will be a three round, 20 team tournament.
