Local experts and alumni discuss opioid epidemic affecting our towns, cities and entire country.
Roberts Wesleyan College hosted a discussion around the opioid epidemic, specifically around Monroe County’s coordinated law enforcement and community approach to address the crisis. The event was held on Tuesday, April 17, and was organized by Roberts Wesleyan’s Justice and Security Institute.
Local experts, including Gates Chief of Police Jim VanBrederode ’88 and Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter ’11 and ’14, discussed the topic from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Lake Auditorium of Smith Hall and was moderated by Kirby Trask, assistant professor of criminal justice at the college.
Immediately following, a “Drugs Over Dinner” discussion took place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Ellen Stowe Dining Room in Garlock Dining Commons.
