Homeland Security and Applied Intelligence Major students are working on research for the Town of Greece Police Department and Monroe County Mental Health. In October, several HSI students began two separate research projects under the guidance of professor Alysia Mason and the RWC Justice and Security Institute. One project involves the 2nd phase of research looking at mental hygiene incident reports and correlating data to arrest records for the Town of Greece Police Department. The purpose is to identify if subjects contacted by the police during a mental hygiene incident were later arrested. It is anticipated that the research findings will help the Town of Greece Police Department and Monroe County Mental Health better devise strategies and policies involving police contact with individuals suffering from mental illness or emotional distress. HSI Students working on this project are Christina Hart, Brandon Alt, Cameron Tomlin, Kylene Hall. The second research project is analyzing data consisting of one year of arrest records from the Town of Greece Police Department to obtain a typology of the individuals arrested. The students working on this research are Benjamin Consler, Stacey Castro and Shannon Knapp.
