Roberts to Offer New Biomedical Sciences Program

Major approved by New York State Education Department

Roberts Wesleyan College has been approved by the New York State Education Department to offer a new Bachelor of Science program in Biomedical Sciences, the fast-growing and in-demand major among college students. The program will be available for Roberts undergraduate students starting in the fall semester.

The new biomedical sciences program will be a part of the School of Natural and Social Sciences, where Dr. Julia Grimm serves as dean. The program will combine a strong foundation in general sciences with special emphasis in anatomy, physiology, pathology and mechanisms of disease. The undergraduate degree in biomedical science will prepare students for a growing number of careers and graduate programs, from scientists in healthcare, government and industry, to graduate level healthcare programs, such as allopathic medicine, epidemiology, osteopathic medicine, physician assistant, public health, physical therapy and occupational therapy.

“Students will graduate with a strong understanding of the biological and chemical systems in the human body,” said Dr. Jason Taylor, professor of chemistry and chair of biological and chemical sciences at Roberts Wesleyan College. “Our graduates will be prepared to meet the growing need of biomedical scientists, clinical researchers, and specialized healthcare professionals.
