Redhawks Cross Country Teams Win Fourth Straight ECC Title

This past Saturday (10/21) saw both the men's and women's cross country programs capture their fourth straight East Coast Conference title at the ECC Cross Country Championships on the campus of NYIT.

Women's Cross Country

The Redhawks totaled 36 points winning by a margin of 25 points to the runner-up Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Senior Emily Betts finished in fourth place to lead the Redhawks with a time of 18:49.80. She earned first team all-conference honors. Coming in just behind Betts was freshman Ashley Watson for the fifth place finish in 18:59.39. Watson was named the ECC Rookie Runner of the Year as well as first team all-conference.

Roberts had a group of runners finish in eighth place through 13th place to help seal the team's win. Senior Veronica Stauffer (8th - 19:07.48), freshman Brittany Shumway (9th – 19:11.91), and sophomore Michaela Bierly (10th – 19:15.68) closed out the top ten finishers. Read more.

Men's Cross Country

Sophomore Josiah Ottolini paced the Redhawks placing first overall to win the ECC individual crown and be named ECC Runner of the Year. Ottolini finished in 24:56.37, just ahead of second place finisher Noah Simatei from NYIT who posted a time of 24:59.27.

Following Ottolini and Simatei was a sea of red as the Redhawks had runners finish in spots three through seven. Sophomore Christopher Sims rounded out the top three finishers (25:35.58).

Roberts Wesleyan posted a total score of 19 points for the team victory which was 52 better than second place team Saint Thomas Aquinas. The Redhawks total team time was 2:08:46.29. Read more.
