Roberts to Launch New Master’s Program in School of Nursing

Roberts Wesleyan College will launch a new master’s program in nursing informatics beginning in the spring of 2018. The program will prepare students to be effective members of health care teams with extensive expertise in informatics. Potential career paths include nursing informatics, clinical informatics nurse, clinical systems analysist, informatics resources nurse and more. Potential employers include medical centers, hospitals and various health care settings.

“This program is the only nursing informatics degree available in the greater Rochester area,” said Dr. Cheryl Crotser, dean and graduate program director at Roberts Wesleyan College. “Roberts Wesleyan College is on the leading edge of health care education, as our health care program has grown significantly in the past 10 years. We are excited to offer this new program in a convenient online format, specifically to meet the needs of working professionals.”

Students will gain knowledge and skills using the latest evidence and technology. As they progress through the curriculum, students will learn best practices in health informatics essentials to include patient safety, electronic health records, workflow, meaningful use, change management and the health information system life cycle, in addition to expertise in nursing science.

The program will educate students to assume leadership roles in nursing informatics by ensuring:

  • A focus on applied knowledge of data management, data transformation and technologies to integrate solutions in health care settings that support health care services to individuals, families and identified populations within applicable laws and regulations.
  • Participation in an internship experience to further develop expertise.
  • The design of an evidence-based practice project proposal addressing a clinical concern using technology solutions.

This 20-month online program will include 24-hour access to courses through Roberts Wesleyan College’s virtual classrooms. Students will also gain experience during their internship course with experts in the field.

“The goal of the Roberts Wesleyan School of Nursing is to prepare you for excellence in nursing through innovative education, practice and scholarship within a supportive Christian environment,” Crotser said. “Roberts has a reputation of excellence in nursing education and our alumni are respected and sought-after in the health care community.”

Roberts Wesleyan’s Master of Science programs, including the nursing informatics program, are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
