Roberts Launches New Logo on 150th Anniversary

Roberts Wesleyan College will refresh its brand and visual identity in 2016 in alignment with the college’s 150th anniversary. The existing brand was created in the early 1990s, and the update, including a new logo, will be a fresh and revitalized look that stays true to the college’s traditional values and rich history.

The new mark signifies the college’s commitment to character development, Christ-centered education, transformational learning and service. It also aligns with Roberts’ three fundamental pillars — scholarship, spiritual formation and service — and strategic focus on transformational experiences, engaged service and innovative programs. The mark was created based on extensive market research, as well as input from undergraduate, adult and graduate students, and campus stakeholders. It will be applied across all of the college’s brand and marketing communications initiatives, including digital pieces, billboards, print pieces, apparel, Web graphics, social media and marketing collateral.

“We are thrilled to share the new visual identity that represents Roberts Wesleyan College,” President Dr. Deana L. Porterfield said. “There is thought and specific reasoning behind every element incorporated into the new mark. For instance, our commitment to Christ-centered education, transformational learning and service are represented within a shield suggesting a fierce resolve to educating for character. This new logo communicates the Roberts difference of connecting the head to the heart and engaging the hands.”

Comprised in the new mark are a cross, a set of flames, an abstract hand and the year of the college’s founding, all built into a traditional shield.

  • 1866 is the year B.T. Roberts founded the college and signifies the deep roots and character embedded in the college’s legacy and motto, “Education for Character.”
  • The cross represents the college’s Christ-centered education and commitment to the spiritual formation and valuable learning experiences for each student.
  • The flame represents transformational learning provided through scholarship and academic preparation for world engagement.
  • The bottom of the torch is an abstract hand that symbolizes purposefulservice to others.
  • The traditional shield represents strength of purpose, education and fortitude.

“In alignment with our 150th anniversary, we are looking to the future while keeping present the rich history of Roberts Wesleyan College,” Porterfield said. “This new logo represents the genuine and unique characteristics of the institution. We inspire students to transform themselves and the world, and this is an excellent way to support our reputation, enrollment and development efforts. It’s the start of new, exciting things to come.”
