Roberts and Northeastern Honor Dr. John Martin, Lt. Governor Robert Duffy at Annual President’s Banquet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nearly 400 well-wishers gathered on Thursday, May 8, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center to pay tribute to Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary’s outgoing president, Dr. John A. Martin. Community leaders, elected officials, friends, family, faculty and staff were on hand to thank Martin and his wife, Kathryn, for their service to the College and Seminary. New York Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy received the President’s Award of Excellence. The award is given to individuals who exemplify the elements of the College’s mission: scholarship, spiritual formation and service.

“John has been an incredible leader for the College and Seminary,” said Jack Connell, Roberts’ executive vice president. “We are grateful for his service and vision over these past 12 years, and we wish him the absolute best.”

Martin has served as the president of Roberts and Northeastern since February 2002 and will finish his duties at the end of June. On July 1, Dr. Deana Porterfield will take office as the 11th president of Roberts Wesleyan College and the third president of Northeastern Seminary.

Roberts and Northeastern officials also used the occasion to publicly announce a $42 million capital campaign to create facilities, scholarships, endowments and academic opportunities for the next generation of Christian leaders. The campaign, called “Legacy 150,” represents the largest fundraising initiative in the school’s history. Detailed information on campaign goals and ways to give can be found at Legacy150.roberts.edu.
