SIFE Team Finishes Near Top at Nationals

Roberts Wesleyan College’s SIFE Team Places 1st Runner Up in Semi-finals

— Students in Free Enterprise Team Competes at National Expo —

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College SIFE team traveled to Kansas City, MO for the SIFE USA National Exposition held on May 22-24. Competing against 165 regional champions, the Roberts Wesleyan College students presented a 24-minute multi-media summary of the educational outreach projects they developed and implemented throughout the year. They were judged by a panel of national business leaders on how well they created economic opportunity by helping others. Winning the opening round and advancing to the semi-finals, the RWC SIFE team was named first-runner up in the semi-finals.  This places them in the top 1% of SIFE teams in the nation.

The RWC SIFE team was also named as one of three finalists in the Jack Shewmaker SIFE Spirit Award for the original video they created demonstrating their extraordinary SIFE spirit.  They were also named one of eleven All-Star teams in the nation for their excellent leadership structure under faculty advisor Professor Carrie Starr and institutional support from President John Martin and Division of Business Chair Steven Bovee of Roberts Wesleyan College.

“Our students showed incredible dedication and commitment to excellence completing their community service projects this year,” said faculty advisor Carrie Starr.  RWC SIFE’s presentation at the National Expo was captivating and inspiring.”

In addition to competition, students had the opportunity to interview for jobs and internships during a Career Fair with representatives from more than 50 SIFE partner companies.

 This year, the SIFE team organized 10 projects to help aspiring entrepreneurs, struggling business owners, low income families, and disadvantaged children experience success. The projects focus on the 14621 community of Rochester and the city of Coimbatore, India.
