Roberts RWCCT Holds Auditions for Cinderella

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA:  AUDITIONS SET FOR SEPT. 28-29

BY THE ROBERTS WESLEYAN COLLEGE COMMUNITY THEATRE

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Roberts Wesleyan College Community Theatre (RWCCT) will conduct auditions for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 28 & 29, at the College’s Cultural Life Center.

Roles are open for those 16 years of age or older.  Auditioners are required to prepare 32 bars of a song from a musical other than Cinderella; a Capella singing is not permitted.  Dance auditions and cold readings from the Cinderella script also will be conducted.  Interested parties should plan to arrive between 6-8 p.m. either night, and be prepared to stay later if that is requested, organizers said.

Show dates for the RWCCT’s Cinderella are Jan. 13-16 and 20-22, 2012, in the Andrews B. Hale Hall of the Cultural Life Center.

Cinderella, which debuted in 1957, was the only Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical written specifically for television, with music by Richard Rodgers and books and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.  The original script was later adapted into a 1997 teleplay by Robert L. Freedman, which the Los Angeles Times called “gently updated to reflect current ideas.”  Freedman’s teleplay has been adapted for the stage by Tom Briggs.

The theatre board for the RWCCT was established in 1997 with its debut showing of Fiddler on the Roof, and has since staged numerous dramatic plays and musicals for the Rochester community.  For more audition information, call 585-594-6783 or visit www.roberts.edu/RWCCT.
