According to the RWC catalog, "All students who graduate from Roberts Wesleyan College must demonstrate proficiency in or exposure to foreign language." The catalog outlines how proficiency may be shown and the specific foreign language requirements for individual programs or majors. In general, students with disabilities are expected to meet these requirements. However, in keeping with legislation related to persons with disabilities, RWC makes accommodations on an individual basis.
Consideration about accommodation or other changes follow a student's request to the Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities for such a change. Students must provide documentation that describes both the diagnosed disability and the recommended modifications along with evidence of academic impact. Records of any previous experiences with foreign languages are also considered. The Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities, the appropriate foreign language instructor, other appropriate faculty, and the student discuss options and determine the effective modifications that satisfy requirements and meet the student's needs.
