Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation

Parker Palmer

"Roberts Reads" is an annual event in which the college community reads a common book and participates in a variety of related learning opportunities. The intent of the program is to be cross-disciplinary and multifaceted in its approach. Participants read, think about, and discuss the book. This year all of the Roberts community is invited to read Parker Palmer’s LET YOUR LIFE SPEAK  and participate in events related to the themes of the book.

Tuesday, October 22 • 7:00 PM (Smith Science Center Auditorium)
Screening of the film The First Grader
The film is a biographical drama based on the true story of Kimani Maruge, a Kenyan man who enrolled in elementary education at the age of 84 after the Kenyan government announced universal and free elementary education in 2003.
 
Wednesday, October 23 • 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM (Ellen Stowe Dining Room)
Faculty lunch with short presentation and speech on the vision of Roberts Reads. Special guest Peter Knapp, founder of the Roberts Reads program.
 
Thursday, October 24 • 4:00 PM (Smith Science Center Auditorium)
 "How Did I Get Here?" - Several faculty and staff members will share their journeys to discern their callings. Opportunity will be given for students to ask questions and engage in discussion. Participants will be Keri Barnett (faculty), John Campolieto (faculty), Mark Fish (athletics), Julie Rushik (English Language Institute), Tim Smith (Student Life), and Emma Hager (Counseling Center)

"Exploring God’s Call for My Life: "Staying at the Table"" - Chapel – Dr. Elvera Berry will be speaking.

Living History – A play by Dr. Matthew Moore
