William Hayes Authors 'Consensus: Education Reform is Possible'

William Hayes’ 15th Book Includes a Foreword by Congresswoman Louise Slaughter

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Roberts Wesleyan College Associate Professor William Hayes recently released his 15th book, “Consensus: Education Reform is Possible.” Published by R&L Education, the tome includes a foreword by Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.

“Bill’s writing is not only timely, but vital to informing our national debate. His comprehensive analysis serves as an important marker for those involved in education reform today, and for those who will study our actions in the future,” writes Slaughter. “Bill has managed to cut through the myriad of proposals, initiatives, and debates to find our common ground and provide an avenue for reforming our educational system for the century to come.”

In “Consensus,” Hayes addresses the inability of the U.S. to define a common vision for reforming education and the failure of No Child Left Behind.

"For anyone with an interest in education in the U.S., this book should provide an increased understanding of the current status of the attempts to improve our schools,” Hayes said. “Without an agreed-upon vision, true reform will be extremely difficult. The purpose of this book is to help the reader understand our differences and to suggest a way that we can reach a consensus.”

Hayes has more than 50 years of experience as a high school social studies teacher, assistant principal and high school principal, superintendent of schools, adjunct professor, associate professor and chairman of the Teacher Education Division at Roberts Wesleyan College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary and social studies education from SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree in social studies from SUNY Albany.

“Our Roberts faculty is of the highest caliber, and we consider ourselves fortunate to have so many outstanding teachers, writers, and thinkers on staff.  We are extremely proud of Bill and congratulate him on the release of his latest book,” Roberts Wesleyan College President John A. Martin said.
