Fall 2013 Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

I’m excited to be writing you we begin a new year here at Roberts. I love seeing the campus come to life again with the arrival of new and returning students. We welcomed almost 50 new freshmen into the program within the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences. I’m always encouraged to hear how welcoming our community is to both new and returning students. I have the privilege of teaching a section of First Year Seminar on campus and have the chance to talk to new students about first impressions. New students often speak of being surprised by how willingly the faculty, staff, and students invest so much into their lives from day one. As I’ve said many times before, it is such a privilege to work here. It is hard for me to believe that I’m starting my 11th year here. It seems like just yesterday I was teaching my first class

Since our last newsletter, much has happened around the department. Many faculty members were involved in teaching summer courses, conducting research, and traveling to conferences. Additionally, students remained at Roberts for a portion of the summer to conduct research with faculty, while others took part in REU research programs at other universities. In this newsletter, we hope to give you a small snapshot of the exciting activities happening within the department.<
