Roberts Ranks Favorably on U.S. News & World Report's Annual List

Roberts Wesleyan College is one of only three local colleges to move up on U.S. News & World Report's annual "Best Colleges" list. The college ranked 47th in the 2013 edition's Regional Universities North category, up 13 spots from last year and 25 spots since 2010.

Senior Vice President for Advancement and External Relations Jack Connell attributes this improvement to the increased quality of Roberts Wesleyan faculty.

"One thing that is driving the needle on quality is the strength of the faculty," Connell said. "In the past five years, there has been an increase in the number of faculty members with their doctorate degrees, and the college has actively worked to decrease class sizes, with about 61% of classes hosting less than 20 students."

The more than 1,800 colleges reviewed by U.S. News & World Report are evaluated on up to 16 factors, including graduation rate, financial resources available and the overall reputation of the school. The Regional Universities North rankings include schools from Maryland, Rhode Island, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine. Roberts Wesleyan College was one of eight colleges in the Rochester area to be ranked in the report.

Update on CCNE Accreditation Visit for Department of Nursing

The Department of Nursing recently hosted a re-accreditation visit from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The evaluators were on campus from September 24-26 looking at all aspects of the program.

The main purpose of the visit was to review the comprehensive self-study (done by the Department in the prior year), and to verify that the statements made in self-study were accurate.

The College is pleased to report that the evaluators were favorably impressed by the quality of students, alumni, support staff, faculty, and especially with the support and resources provided by the College. A final decision from the Board of Commissioner of the CCNE is expected in April of 2013.

Join Us for Community Gathering Chapels

Chapel

Join us as the campus community worships and learns together. Mondays from 11-11:50 are "Community Gathering Chapels," in Hale Auditorium. These are opportunities for the entire RWC community, students, faculty, staff, and alumni to come together and worship.

In our fast paced world, we are asked to create space for many things. In our chapel worship, we create space to attend to the Living Christ among us, both individually and together. Sermon series help us as a community to focus together on topics of faith development, and we are intentional about worshipping in a breadth of Christian traditions and styles. Carpenter Hall Changes

Major changes in energy efficiency for Carpenter Hall. Carpenter Hall has served the Roberts Wesleyan College community well since 1935. The building currently houses Visual Arts, Social Sciences, and Social Work. Hundreds of students and faculty benefit from the space daily. Unfortunately, since 1935, just about everything, except the heating system, has been completely updated.

CarpThat all changed just after Commencement in May. A geothermal well field was installed in the east lawn. Forty 300 ft. deep wells were drilled and now provide heating in the winter and cooling in the summer for the facility. This will provide major energy and costs savings for the College.

The project was completed last summer and the east lawn looks better than ever. The wells are not visible and exist a few feet below the surface. In addition, a beautiful new patio with a seating area now greets visitors as they enter the building.
