Peter Mastrogiovanni Teacher of the Year

In 1986 Peter Mastrogiovanni graduated with his undergraduate degree in elementary education from Roberts Wesleyan College.  Soon he began teaching in the Rochester City School District where he has been teaching for the past 25 years.  Peter was presented the 2011 Genesee Valley Air Force Association Chapter 308-Teacher if the Year Award and the 2011 Air Force Association New York State Teacher of the Year Award.

The United States Air Force Association Chapter and State Teacher of the Year Award recognizes a classroom teacher for their accomplishments and achievements in exciting K – 12 students about Science and Math (STEM) and preparing them to use and contribute to tomorrow’s technologies.  This is a unique opportunity for states to reward special teachers who are furthering excellence and making coming to class an adventure.

Peter created and instructs the Henry W. Longfellow School #36 Engineering Academy for fifth and sixth grade students.  The Engineering Academy, in its third year, is supported through the Engineering Division of Sentry Safe.  Engineers from Sentry Safe work with the engineering students weekly in Peter’s program.  This program allows students to experience hands-on activities that challenge professional engineers in the real-world each day.

Peter and his wife Melodie have two daughters who are both college age.  One of his daughters is a current student at Roberts Wesleyan.  The Division of Teacher Education congratulates Peter in making a difference in the lives of students for the past twenty five years.
