B.A. in Music

The Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music offers broad musical preparation which can lead to any number of career interests, including private music teaching and graduate school.  The B.A. degree allows students with interests in many areas to take a wide range of classes or double major in other programs such as Religion-Philosophy or Communications.  Because a B.A. degree reflects a broad base of courses, 90 of the 124 semester hours required for graduation must be in liberal arts credits. 

Required music courses include:

  • Music Theory and Aural Skills I, II, III
  • Music Theory IV or Orchestration 
  • Music History and Literature I, II, III 
  • Basic Conducting 
  • Applied lessons 
  • Ensemble 
  • Music Seminar

6 credits of Liberal arts music course elective:

  • Jazz History
  • Jazz Theory and Improvisation 
  • Composition 
  • 20th Century Theory 
  • Piano/Vocal/Instrument Literature 
  • Music in the Church

B.A. in Music majors may elect to take additional non-liberal arts music courses
