Roberts Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble

The Roberts Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mike Van Allen, is made up of 10-20 Roberts Wesleyan College student musicians and performs composed and improvised music derived from the American big band tradition; African American composers and improvisers; contemporary classical music; and Latino, Brazilian, and various other ethnic traditions. The band performs music spanning the standard jazz repertoire, tunes from the American Songbook, and contemporary jazz arrangers. Concerts feature the music of Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Gil Evans, Duke Ellington, Bill Holman, and the Stan Kenton and Count Basie writers, as well as student compositions and local composers. These concerts are free; no tickets are required.
