The pre-optometry program prepares one to apply for entry into an optometry school.   There are a limited number of optometry schools in the United States and one must maintain a high grade point average.  Upon admission to optometry school, another four years of training are required to become a licensed optometrist. Each student will choose a major at Roberts which can be any of the majors that are offered here.  Students often choose a science major since a number of science courses are required for admission to optometry school.  These courses include:

  • A year of general chemistry
  • A year of organic chemistry
  • A year of physics
  • A year of general biology
  • A year of psychology
  • A semester of microbiology
  • A semester of calculus

A student should choose a major based on what one would want to do if he or she did not gain admission to optometry school.
