Pre-Med-Tech

Here at Roberts you will have the opportunity to prepare for a rewarding career in an environment that will foster both your academic and spiritual development.

  • You will spend the first 3 years taking basic science and general education classes at Roberts.
  • During the fall of your third year at Roberts you will apply to the Med Tech programs of your choice.
  • Upon acceptance to the Hospital program your fourth year is spent at either Rochester General Hospital, Rochester NY or at WCA Hospital in Jamestown NY.
  • Upon completion of the year of training at the hospital, you will earn a BS in Biology with a Medical Technology Concentration from RWC
  • You will be qualified to sit for the certification exam for Medical Laboratory Scientists. 

 As of 2009, the new certification agency is called the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC).

(Students desiring to work in a clinical laboratory in New York State upon  completion of their education must be certified by the NYS Education Department  Office of the Professions.)

Both the RGH and the WCA Schools of Medical Technology are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). They conform to the Standards established by NAACLS which is sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
