Joseph J. Davis is a retired Police Captain from the Rochester, New York, Police Department where he served for 38 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from St. John Fisher College, Rochester New York and a master’s degree in Strategic Leadership from Roberts Wesleyan College. As a police commanding officer and through extensive work in the Rochester community, Davis gathered extensive experience in supervision, management and leadership in organizations. The experience includes program operations, professional development (training), problem analysis, program development, budget development and management, personnel management and administration (e.g. project management, grant management, and capital improvement projects), significant work with community organizations, not–for-profit organizations, and diverse populations.
Davis has served and will be serving as an adjunct professor with Roberts Wesleyan College and Keuka College. Davis is the author and co author of numerous presentations for the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. He is the past president of the Law Enforcement Training Directors Association of New York State and is a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Law Enforcement Training Directors Association. He is a self employed consultant/trainer for police and government entities, educators, and security personnel. He is the co author of a newly written Police Leadership text book for The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc.
Davis is an Eagle Scout. He enjoys the Adirondack Mountains where he has a cabin in the Jessup River Wilderness area. He is a sailor, enjoys racing sailboats at the club level, and owns a sailing vessel. Davis’ hobbies include photography, playing acoustic guitar, and discussing current political issues.
