Dr. Hays has been a faculty member at Roberts Wesleyan College since January, 2006 when he joined the Division of Adult Professional Studies as Assistant Professor of Health Administration. He developed the curriculum for courses in Health Care Research Methods, Organizational Leadership, Leadership Coaching in Health Care, Health Care Strategic Planning, Health Care Organizational Transformation, and Health Systems and Organizations.

Dr. Hays earned his B.A. degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing (1997) from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, his M.S. in Health Care Administration degree (2000) from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and his Doctor of Strategic Leadership degree (2008) from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. He also holds the designation of Certified Medical Practice Executive (2002) from the American College of Medical Practice Executives.

Dr. Hays has worked in various sectors of the health care industry for over 20years, including eight years in health insurance administration and seven years as a physician practice administrator and consultant.

His publications include: “Mentoring Physician Leaders: Ensuring the Future of Health Care” in Group Practice Journal, June 2005, Volume 54, No. 6; “Restructuring for a Brighter Future: Organizational Design and Culture Change in 21st Century Higher Education” in Leadership Advance Online, Issue XII, Spring 2008; “The High Cost of Apathy: Why Leadership Coaching is Needed in Health Care” in Journal of Strategic Leadership, Vol. 1, Issue 1, September 2008; “Every Good and Perfect Gift: Understanding the Relationship Between Spiritual Gifts and Leadership Roles” a book chapter in Best Practices in Integrating Faith and Learning for Adult and Online Students, CCCU Center for Research in Adult Learning, 2010;  and “Written in Stone: The Foundation of Values for Servant Leaders” in The Leading Edge, Vol. 3, No. 1, March 2010.

In addition, Dr. Hays journeyed to Oxford University and Cambridge University, UK in July 2011 where he presented a paper entitled “Incarnational Leadership and Learning in Christian Higher Education: A Vision for Transforming Students and Culture.” His research interests include the impact of servant leadership on the health care industry, and training and developing administrators and physicians as servant leaders.

Dr. Hays has been married to Karin, his wife and best friend, for 26 years and is the father of two boys, Nathan and Samuel. His personal interests include reading Southern literature, biographies, and works by C.S. Lewis; collecting autographs of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts; and visiting U.S. National Parks.
