Music History Faculty

Roberts Wesleyan University invites candidates to apply for a part-time, 9-month, Music History faculty position for the 2023-2024 Academic Year. The Department of Music and Performing Arts is housed in the School of Arts and Humanities on our park-like campus in Rochester New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area.

The Department of Music and Performing Arts at Roberts Wesleyan University offers majors in Music Education, Music Therapy, Performance, and General Music, as well as minors in Theatre and Jazz. The mission of the Department is “to prepare students to succeed and serve by providing programs of high quality that integrate and express a Christian worldview”.

The faculty of the department are highly qualified and experienced professionals who are committed to supporting students in their academic and artistic pursuits. The Professor of Music History would be responsible for teaching the full music history sequence, which includes the following undergraduate courses:

  • MUSC 2301 Music History and Literature I (3 cr)
  • MUSC 2302 Music History and Literature II (3 cr)
  • MUSC 3303 Music History and Literature III (3 cr)

Additional courses would be determined based on areas of expertise.

Required qualifications include advanced study in music history or related field (doctoral degrees preferred, masters degrees considered). Previous academic experience preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support the University’s Christian mission and identity. Candidates must also exhibit cultural competence and show strong commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
