Communication Faculty

Roberts Wesleyan University invites candidates to apply for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Communication to begin either in July or Fall of 2023. The University’s location in Rochester, New York provides the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area. The Communication Program, housed in the School of Arts and Humanities, has a strong history of graduates entering both the for-profit and not-for-profit workplace as well as a wide range of graduate studies. The Program is grounded in a rhetorical foundation while remaining purposely attentive to society’s highly relevant practical implications of rhetorical theory and criticism.

Roberts Wesleyan University is a comprehensive Christian University of the liberal arts and sciences and professional-degree programs serving approximately 1800 traditional and nontraditional students in over 90 undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree-completion programs, including doctoral programs in clinical/school psychology and occupational therapy. Founded by Benjamin Titus Roberts in 1866 on Christian principles of social justice and service, the University is committed to integrating a Christian worldview with learning in order to prepare thoughtful, spiritually mature, service-oriented people who will help transform society. Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Communication, Rhetoric, or a closely related field. Candidates must have
 significant undergraduate teaching experience and outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate passion for and effectiveness in classroom teaching, as well as commitment to the liberal arts and to collaborative, innovative approaches to undergraduate curricula. The successful candidate must demonstrate a Christian faith commitment consistent with the mission of the University, as well as multicultural competence and a track record of commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and belonging. Candidates with experience in multidisciplinarity and civic engagement consonant with a rich institutional tradition exemplified in Communication education will be given priority.

Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities include 24 credit hours per year of undergraduate-level courses. (While a primary focus for faculty is teaching, expectations also include student advising/mentoring, institutional service, profession-related activity, and scholarship.) Teaching assignments will be a mix of general-education and upper-level courses in the broadly defined, multidisciplinary Communication major. Areas of faculty expertise might include grounding in, for example: interpersonal & nonverbal com., media ecology, ethics & criticism, persuasion, public relations, sociolinguistics, strategic com. Familiarity with both the wide-ranging praxis of communication in today’s world and rhetorical theory that undergirds social praxis is essential.

Salary Range: $52,000 - $57,000 based on experience and rank.
