Working At My Alma Mater, by Dr. Julie Grimm

It really is a privilege to work at Roberts, my alma mater.   I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how grateful I am to work at an institution that allows me to teach what I am passionate about – the ever exciting world of psychology and how it so beautifully interfaces with God’s Word.   Truly, the Bible is the first Psychology book.  Indeed, the truths about Psychology find their foundation in God’s Word.   The therapeutic strategies that have evidence-based support, find support and linkages in the scripture.   I am immediately impressed by the way Cognitive-Behavioral approaches find their roots in Philippians 4:8 where we learn that we will experience true peace if we “think on these things” and put what we’ve learned from the scripture into practice!   Psychology integrated with Christian faith truly poses a path to deep wholeness for a world that more than ever needs hope.   It is a privilege to help students learn these wonderful truths as they study the discipline of Psychology.

Our doctoral program continues to grow!   We will welcome a third cohort this fall to join the 18 returning students.   Our first cohort will begin their dissertations this year and start planning for their fourth year internships.   We are grateful for the regional partnerships that are providing rich clinical and school placements for our students.  And, we’re very thankful for the positive evaluation received from a review team from the American Psychological Association concerning potential accreditation (read more about this in this newsletter).

We’d love to hear from you!   Send us an e-mail and let us know what you’ve been up to—we’d be delighted to share it in our next newsletter!   Perhaps you know of a student who would benefit from a Roberts education.   Please let us know about them and I will make a personal contact.   As one who knows, a Roberts’ education is life-transforming.

God’s blessings and best wishes from all of us in the Psychology Department.
