Message from Dr. Julie Grimm, Chair, Department of Psychology

I’m enjoying the sunny weather here in Rochester, as I write this update. It’s quite a contrast to the nearly monsoon-like rain we experienced on May 6th as we graduated 17 BA/BS students, 10 School Counselors (MS), and 7 School Psychologists. We did not let the rain dampen our spirits as we watched these wonderful students cross the platform to receive their degrees. We are also celebrating the completion of our first year of the doctoral program in Clinical and School Psychology. It has been such a pleasure to shepherd our first 8 students in that program, while looking forward to the next 10 who will join the program in the fall. God is good!

While I could easily talk about the distinctives of our programs and the value-added features of a Roberts’ education, I think our students say it best. In this newsletter, you will hear from three students. Alexis just received her BS in Psychology and shares about the blessings of an internship placement that ultimately led to employment. Judie received her MS in School Psychology. Judie writes about the support and care she received as a student who was also juggling the roles of wife and mother of three children. Sophia is just completing her first year in the inaugural class of our doctoral program. She reflects on her experiences in this new degree program.

I hope you will find their stories heart-warming. I hope this reminds you that we continue to be in the business of educating psychologists who are ready to engage their head with their heart, in order to use their hands to transform the world. If you know of someone who would benefit from this kind of education, we would love to hear from you!   Send me their names and I will personally reach out to them. And, as always, we really appreciate learning about what’s new in your world. Please keep those professional and family updates coming!
