Saturday - March 19th, 2022

Join us for a day-long experience of high-level music-making, where we invite the best high school band students from across the region to participate. This exciting festival challenges students’ musicianship as they work toward putting together a complete program in one day. With some time for food and fun mixed in, you won’t want to miss this great opportunity.

The festival begins at 9:30 a.m. with both lunch and dinner provided. Activities will culminate in a live concert in Hale Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and families are encouraged to attend! This event is held in conjunction with Honors Choir, and the two groups will perform on the same concert.


COVID precautions: All students will be required to wear masks when indoors on campus. Depending on the Covid restrictions at the time of the festival, instrumentalists may be required to wear masks, use bell covers and maintain 4 feet of distance when rehearsing and performing. Meet the Director

Dr. Paul Shewan

Paul Shewan, Director of the Honors Band Festival, is Professor of Instrumental Music at Roberts Wesleyan College where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra. He is also Professor of trumpet and conducting. He earned a BS in Music Education from Roberts Wesleyan College, and both his MM in Trumpet Performance and DMA in Conducting from the Eastman School of Music. Shewan is guest conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and numerous festival ensembles throughout the United States. He is a member of the trumpet section of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and performs chamber music extensively throughout the Northeast. He has recorded as soloist and conductor on the Albany Record label.

Teacher Recommendation

Attention band teachers! We are looking for your exceptional and hard-working students to participate in our honors festival. Using our Google drive form, please submit recommendations for all of your students who choose to apply. You will need to submit one recommendation per student. Your feedback is weighed heavily in the acceptance process. A recommendation for each student is required. Students without a recommendation will not be considered. To submit your recommendations, visit this page. You can also email your recommendations to Rebecca Gartland at Gartland_Rebecca@roberts.edu if that is more convenient.
