Alumni Spotlight, Stacey Hull, '09

My name is Stacey Hull and I am an alumnus of Roberts of the class of 2009. I graduated in December of 2009, with majors in both Psychology and Criminal Justice. I loved my time at Roberts and made many long lasting friendships with both the faculty and students at Roberts. I participated in many activities while at Roberts including: Summer Ministry, Intramurals, and In Jesus’ Name to just name a few. Also, during my junior year, I was the Student Association Chaplain. Despite being busy with homework and activities, I felt that I matured both spiritually and mentally while attending Roberts. Roberts was a perfect fit for me to develop as a person and prepare me for my future career in Law Enforcement.

I entered the police academy in February 2010. I was part of the Rochester Police Department (RPD) recruit class. I was the only female in my recruit class and the only one from an outside agency besides RPD. The police academy was 6 months long which included training in: NYS Criminal Law, Vehicle and Traffic Laws, police investigations, report writing, firearms, defensive tactics, emergency driving, and many other topics. The academy was very intense, both mentally and physically. I pushed myself everyday while in the academy. I proved to myself and to others that if I put my heart and mind into something, I can succeed. I showed myself what my physical and mental limits were and went beyond what I thought was ever possible.

After the 6 months in the academy, I was on Field Training for 4 months, where I was on the road with a training officer to learn the “ins and outs” of the job. Your field-training officer critiques you, but also points out your strengths throughout the day with the situations that you handled. I was out on my own after these 4 months. I worked the afternoon shift, which is 2pm-10pm, for the first two years then switched to the midnight shift, 10pm-6am. I really like the midnight shift and would like to stay on this shift.

Being in this job, you see everything, I mean EVERYTHING! Everyday is different and you never know what to expect. However, you always have to be prepared and think of your safety and the safety of others. Being at work, means always being on your guard and making decisions in seconds.

I just graduated with my Masters in Forensic Psychology in hopes to teach college level courses in the future. I currently teach CPR classes for various ambulance and training agencies in my spare time. I also work special events as a Campus Safety Officer at Roberts. I also founded a mentorship kids program through a domestic violence charity group called Offsprings Charities. This mentorship program takes child victims of domestic violence and pairs them up with local police officers in the area. This interaction allows kids to see police officers in a more positive atmosphere to create a better relationship between kids and police officers. When I am not working or taking a part in charity events, I love playing sports, working out, and hanging out with friends.
