Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies

Au Sable Institute

The Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences at Roberts Wesleyan College is pleased to have a participation agreement with the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies. Roberts’ students can take classes, learn hands-on skills and techniques, gain field experience, conduct research, develop tools for environmental stewardship, and experience science education from a Christian perspective while earning Roberts credit.

Au Sable offers more than twenty field-based courses ranging from Marine Mammals to Tropical Agriculture and Missions to Restoration Ecology in four different locations around the globe: Great Lakes Region (Mancelona, MI), Pacific Northwest (Whidbey Island, WA), South India (Thiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu) and Latin America (Vara Blanca, Costa Rica). Students who take multiple courses can earn a certificate in a particular area of environmental stewardship such as water resource analyst.

Students may also participate in the Au Sable Undergraduate Research Program which is designed to address pressing questions in ecology, conservation, and restoration, to serve local environmental agencies and organizations with informed data, and to prepare students as scientists by involving them in laboratory and field research.

For more information on these programs, please contact Rachel Graham, Roberts Wesleyan's on-campus Au Sable program coordinator.
