International Programs/Semester-long Study Abroad

Roberts Wesleyan College offers many study abroad opportunities through the Rinker Center for Global Learning. Students interested in spending a semester abroad should consult the Study Abroad Coordinator, who is the designated study abroad advisor. Roberts Wesleyan College endorses the following programs:

Australia - Australia Studies Centre 

The Australia Studies Centre (ASC) is located in Brisbane, Australia through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Programs in the ASC are “designed to integrate the firsthand observation and study of Australian culture, history, religion, politics and Indigenous cultures together with experiential service learning and formal instruction in Christian Studies, Business, Ministries, Social Sciences and Education and Humanities.” http://bestsemester.com/locations-and-programs/australia

Austria - Salzburg College 

Salzburg College is an institution of higher education that provides international education programs in the American academic tradition of the liberal arts.  Students have the option to take a variety of courses in English, live with a host family, and experience the rich culture and traditions of Mozart’s birthplace.  Classes are small and professors encourage students to integrate their academics with their experiences in Europe. http://salzburgcollege.com

Costa Rica - Latin American Studies Program 

The Latin American Studies Program (LASP) is offered through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.  Students learn Spanish as well as Latin American culture, politics, religion, economics, history, and ecology.  There are opportunities to live with host families, engage in service learning, and travel to other Central American countries.  http://www.bestsemester.com/lasp/overview/

Jamaica - Jamaica Theological Seminary

This program was initiated for eligible juniors and seniors from all majors seeking a study abroad experience in the Caribbean.  The programs of study at Jamaica Theological Seminary (JTS) are particularly conducive for students majoring in Religion & Philosophy, Contemporary Ministries, and Biblical Studies.  Courses are taught in English and housing in campus dormitories is provided.

Lithuania - LCC University

Immerse yourself in the cultures of four countries in four months –Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia—while you study from a selection of courses offered at LCC University. All classes are taught in English.  You will live in campus housing with European roommates and get to know local community members while you experience the coastal city of Klaipeda.  http://www.lcc.lt/study-abroad-semester-program

Middle East Studies Program  

The Middle East Studies Program (MESP) is offered through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Students take courses that intersect the topics of culture, religion, economics, and politics in the region as well as the global dimensions of the Islamic faith.  The MESP teaches about the history of Christian, Muslim and Jewish relations and helps students understand the complex issues surrounding current regional conflicts and the ongoing efforts toward achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East. http://www.bestsemester.com/locations-and-programs/middle-east

Spain - Instituto Español Murallas de Avila (IEMA)

Roberts Wesleyan College has partnered with IEMA in Avila, Spain for students working toward a major, minor, or concentration in Spanish. Features include living with a Spanish host family and 19 credits of language, history and cultural classes taught in Spanish. Courses are specifically designed and managed by Dr. Maria Villodre, Associate Professor of Spanish.

Uganda - Uganda Studies Program  

The Uganda Studies Program (USP) is offered through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. Students are taught by local faculty at Uganda Christian University near the capital city of Kampala. In addition to the Faith & Action and African Context core courses, students have the opportunity to pursue a Global Health Emphasis or Social Work Emphasis in their coursework that includes a cross-cultural practicum. http://www.bestsemester.com/locations-and-programs/uganda

United Kingdom - Scholar’s Semester in Oxford

The Scholar’s Semester in Oxford (SSO) is offered through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. The Scholar’s Semester requires a 3.7 minimum GPA and is designed for students looking for an intensive, academically rigorous study abroad experience. As a student in the SSO, you are an official member of Wycliffe Hall and a Registered Visiting Student of the University of Oxford. You will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with acclaimed Oxford scholars to discuss and debate topics in history, literature, language, philosophy, musicology, art, science, and more. http://www.bestsemester.com/locations-and-programs/oxford/sso

Non-Roberts Programs

Students may choose to study abroad with an independent program provider if none of the Roberts programs meet their criteria. In this case, contact the Study Abroad Coordinator at globalscholars@roberts.edu. All non-Roberts programs must be approved through the Rinker Center for Global Learning.
