Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing
The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) was founded in 1922 by six nurses in Indianapolis, IN. They named the society Sigma Theta Tau based on the Greek words for Love, Courage, and Honor. STTI now has over 500 chapters, with more than 135,000 active members residing in 90 countries around the world. The mission of STTI is advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.
Student members are invited to join based on their academic achievements in a baccalaureate, masters, PhD or post-doctoral program. Nurse leaders are invited based on three criteria: being legally recognized to practice in your country, having a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in any field, and having demonstrated achievement in nursing.
RWC School of Nursing Tau Xi Chapter celebrated our 10th year anniversary last year. We just had our 11th induction ceremony on November 11, 2017, and 61 new members joined our Chapter. We had 185 attendees who participated in this event. Tau Xi now has 195 active members.
Tau Xi Chapter received three recognitions this past year. It has been recognized as the September 2017 Chapter Website of the Month. In addition, Tau Xi Chapter received two recognitions through the Showcase of Regional Excellence for our efforts to fulfill the presidential call to action for advocacy and scholarship.
Adjunct Professor of Nursing, Leslie Edens (Governance Chair of Tau Xi), and Associate Professor of Nursing, Dr. Santhiny Rajamohan (President of Tau Xi), recently returned from the Biennial Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Convention in Indianapolis. We are excited about the future endeavors of Tau Xi Chapter.
